A Day in the Life of Heritage

Most Wednesdays my kids are excited about seeing friends and going to their classes.  I, too, enjoy the fellowship.  I also enjoy the fact that for this day my kids are learning from someone else I trust with my children.  The teachers give them so much – much more than knowledge!  And on those days that it is rougher getting out of the house…..well, I am thankful for the small break in our routine to help me regain my perspective.

Once there, the kids head for their classes.  They catch up on the latest news from the week.  After the first few weeks, even the younger ones know where to go.  Down in the nursery, the littlest ones are given lots of snuggles.  My preschooler is welcomed with joy and warmth – even when hiding from the teacher.  The teacher eases her out of her hesitancy that morning and before my child knows it she is having fun learning.

Meanwhile, my older kids have settled down for class.  Between classes they eat their snacks, get a drink, and visit.

When the kids are in their classes I find myself either helping in a class or visiting with friends.  There is a wonderful “parent’s room” with coffee, tea and sometimes chocolate!  I find myself gleaning from the others – how to deal with a child throwing a tantrum, curriculum, working out issues in your community, recent seminars, and the list goes on.

I am not sure who enjoys Heritage more – my children or myself.  But I do know that each Wednesday is a gift to our family.

Wednesday morning, in this house at least, often begins Tuesday night.  Since we don’t have to be anywhere most mornings, it helps.  So I get our snacks ready, gather the backpacks, and try to remember all that is needed.
